The mission of the East Tennessee Community Design Center is to make East Tennessee a better place to live and work by bringing design and planning assistance to communities lacking resources. We believe residents and professionals working together will create better communities by design.

Through the Community Design Center, professional volunteers and students give thousands of hours of service each year on projects which leverage five times their value in improvements and services to East Tennessee communities. The programs of the Community Design Center are:

* DesignWorks
* FutureScapes
* Community Development
* East Tennessee Housing Development Corporation

The purposes of the East Tennessee Community Design Center are:

* To provide architectural, planning and related technical services to groups unable to obtain them otherwise.
* To develop community involvement in comprehensive community planning.
* To investigate new concepts in low-income housing.
* To help citizens evaluate concepts and programs related to renovating neighborhoods.
* To encourage and assist community economic development.

Created in 1970, the East Tennessee Community Design Center is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that works with community groups in urban and rural East Tennessee. The Community Design Center organizes people, ideas and resources to facilitate positive change in economically distressed and isolated communities in the region. The sixteen Tennessee counties served by the Community Design Center are: Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Monroe, Morgan, Roane, Scott, Sevier and Union.
