Current Projects at ETCDC

ALICE BELL SPRING HILL, LAKE FOREST, LYONS VIEW, AND HARRILL HILLS NEIGHBORHOODS have each requested assistance in planning and implementing strategies aimed to reduce speed and volume of motor vehicle traffic within their respective neighborhoods.

FAÇADE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM, an initiative of the City of Knoxville Department of Community Development to assist specific qualified property owners of the inner city business district in an endeavor to enhance the visual appearance of the building façade. The Design Center provides enhancement alternatives that meet design guidelines and certain financial restrictions of the program. Current requests for assistance have been awarded to 1209 N Central, 741/743 N Broadway, 3404 MLK Boulevard, 121 W Anderson, Old Gray Cemetery, 109 Jennings and 600 N Broadway.

CITY OF KNOXVILLE TRANSPORTATION & MOBILITY COMMITTEE has requested the Design Center provide fiscal management services for this all-volunteer committee.

OLD NORTH KNOXVILLE- the Design Center in collaboration with volunteer professional advisor Trey Benefield assisted the Old North Knoxville neighborhood with design of a community park. The park is now nearing completion and we have been requested to assist with a landscape plan for the park.

CITY OF KNOXVILLE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT requested assistance in preparing boards for display at the Partnership for Neighborhood Improvement board meeting for work that is either ongoing or recently completed in the Magnolia Avenue Corridor. It is hoped from this presentation to acquire funding to support additional work in the area.

CITY OF KNOXVILLE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT requested similar presentation material for a public meeting held in Lonsdale, the purpose of which is to maintain community support and involvement in work currently in progress and to build awareness of future endeavors for enhancement of the community on behalf of the City.

AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS has requested the Community Design Center provide all of the administrative and financial services for their organization.

CPTED TRAINING, the Community Design Center in collaboration with the American Institute of Architects, American Society of Landscape Architects, and the Knoxville Police Department conducted training for local design professionals in the area of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. 3 CEU credits were earned for attendance to the training.

SEQUOYAH HILLS PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION along with Knoxville Parks and Recreation has requested the Design Center provide long range planning assistance for the Tahali community park.

ROSE CENTER in Morristown has requested design and planning assistance relative to a new facility as well as a site feasibility study.

SOUTH HAVEN NEIGHBORHOOD along with Knoxville Parks and recreation has requested planning assistance for a bridge over the creek in Mary James Park. This bridge will be a part of the greenway system, and is located in a park where the Design Center has assisted the neighborhood on other occasions.
